Technical Notes

  • Pulse MIG at 130A on stainless 304 — the pool wetting angle on stainless is noticeably different from carbon steel at the same pulse parameters
  • The stainless surface reflects more arc light, creating a brighter halo around the pool — the short exposure handles this without overexposure
  • Heat tint bands forming behind the pool are clearly visible — useful for judging interpass temperature and heat input in austenitic stainless welding

Why this recording matters

Pulse MIG on stainless is the preferred process for food-grade, pharmaceutical, and chemical equipment. The combination of pulse arc flicker and stainless reflectivity makes this one of the hardest scenarios for welding cameras. This recording demonstrates stable imaging under both challenges simultaneously.
